BASIL

Greek Columnar Basil

Annual
A customer told me about this upright growing basil that almost never blossoms…which means you don’t have to keep cutting off blossoms to keep the plant producing leaves for all your pesto needs! Upright habit perfect for containers or borders. Grows 24-36 inches tall. Bring indoors in winter. Annual outside.

NEW OTHER COMMON HERBS

English Wedgewood Thyme

Perennial
The leaves of English thyme are slightly more broad than the narrow, pointy leaves of French thyme. This variety has dark green leaves with light green markings. The flavor is slightly sweeter and milder than French thyme and the plant grows taller. Cut back often to keep it full and bushy. Can't take super hot weather, so this is a good one to plant in partial shade.

NEW ADVENTUROUS HERB

Patchouli

Annual
I'm excited to offer patchouli plants this year! This tropical member of the mint family is not hardy here, but can be grown in a large pot and brought indoors in winter. One of the few herbs that will do well in partial shade, patchouli has beautiful, dark green, tooth-edged leaves with an earthy, woody, or spicy scent that is familiar to most of us. Use it fresh or dried for a luxurious bath, in potpourri, or even in tea.

HEIRLOOM SLICER FAVE

Large Barred Boar

Purple-Black Tomato Ind.65-70

This plant grow stocky and not as tall as a regular indeterminate, so it’s good for a large container. Flattened 8-12 ounce beefsteak fruits are pink-brown with metallic green striping on the skin and pink flesh inside. Very flavorful and good meaty texture. From Brad Gates at Wild Boar Farms.

HYBRID SLICER

Mountain Magic

Red Tomato Ind.69 days

This bright red two-bite tomato is borne in clusters of 7-8 tomatoes. The relatively compact plants would do well in a large container. In one of Fedco’s trials, a single plant yielded 106 tomatoes in a 15 day period, all perfect except for three! We didn't count how many tomatoes we got off our single plant, but it had to be several hundred over the whole season. A great one for canning! Fruits are firm and keep well on the countertop. The texture is juicy with a rich, sprightly flavor. A real winner!

Adelaide Festival is a vigorous, regular leaf variety that produces fruits that are a rich purple color with green stripes that ripen to olive-gold. They are medium-sized (six to ten ounce), smooth, oblate in shape, very juicy and tender with a delicious, well-balanced flavor that is neither too tart or too sweet. Developed in Australia from a cross between 'Rosella Purple' and 'Pink Berkeley Tie Dye'. It was named in appreciation of the Adelaide Festival of Arts fireworks.
